Paul Dunbar: The Musical Revue

Paul Dunbar: The Musical Revue is a lively companion piece to The Paul Dunbar Show in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and Black History Month. While The Paul Dunbar Show will feature selections from the author’s many varied works, Paul Dunbar: The Musical Revue will present songs and music from the Harlem Renaissance which, in part, was credited to the prolific work of Paul Dunbar. Because of his works, the Golden Age of Black intellectualism and creativity was sparked. Paul Dunbar: The Musical Revue will feature songs from the golden era of the Harlem Renaissance including songs from Ain’t Misbehavin and Shuffle Along. It promises to be a lively night of entertainment and song!

Juneteenth, (officially Juneteenth National Independence Day and also known as Jubilee Day,Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, and Black Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. It is also often observed for celebrating African-American culture. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865. The day was recognized as a federal holiday on June 17, 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law. Juneteenth's commemoration is on the anniversary date of the June 19, 1865, announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army general Gordon Granger, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas,which was the last state of the Confederacy with institutional slavery.
WOW MISSION STATEMENT
To encourage African American Art. This will include, but is not limited to, plays, theatrical productions including dance, vocal performances, spoken word poetry, visual art, playwriting, TV productions, and all creative endeavors that allow African American talent to be featured here, in Hawaii, and beyond.
To be a resource for learning the art and business of staging all types of productions whether on camera or on the stage. People will be able to hone their skills, have an opportunity to learn new skills, and encourage others in their pursuit of artistic excellence.
To produce quality productions that encourage people to explore the African American experience. To be a responsible member and thriving member of the theatre community.

Flyin’ West
Pearl Cleage’s 1994 play, Flyin’ West is set in 1898, follows four black women as they lay claim to land in Nicodemus, an all-black Kansas town. The play is a powerful commentary on sisterhood, identity and race and is based on fact: in the late 19th century, many African Americans left the South to settle out West.
